My name is Charles Breunig, and I was born with Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy typically occurs at birth. In this situation the brain does not receive adequate oxygen. This affects the part of the brain called the Cerebrum, which controls the muscles in our body. Cerebral Palsy affects my whole body: my speech, my hands and my legs.

I am lucky because a lot of people are worse then I am. Most people can not understand me but I am still able to communicate. I need someone to cook and feed me, but I live by myself and drive a car. I have a difficult time walking but I am still able to walk.

My outlook on life is to look at what I can do, not at what I cannot do. Each of us has our own difficulties that we have to face; mine are visible. I enjoy being as independent as possible, and enjoy each day, one day at a time.

In my life, I have discovered that God gave me the gift of writing poetry. I write about my experiences with Cerebral Palsy and my journey through life. Writing is one way I deal with life's problems. Writing also helps me to grow in my Faith.

I always look for ways to help others and help myself. Writing poetry helps me, and by putting my poetry on bookmarks I can help others. In 1996 I started a small business selling inspirational bookmarks. Around 2000 I started to create inspirational shopping list(s) and inspirational calendars. And in 2008 I started designing inspirational note pads

Now I hope to help others through sharing my writings. Here is one of my poems

Thank God

I needed a break
from work a few days ago.
So I went out of town
to a park by a river.
I was there during the day,
so the park was empty
and peaceful.

The leaves floated to the ground,
s I was walking.
I walked over
to a log by the river,
and sat down.
As I was sitting,
I was watching
the water flow down the river.

I started to thank God,
for the air I breathe,
for my eyes
so I can enjoy the beauty,
for my legs
to I can walk around this park.
for being able to enjoy
God’s beautiful art work.

Then my mind turned
towards my day.
My busy day full of stress.
I don’t take enough time.
To thank
God for little things in life
